Objective

A full-time position as a high school science teacher, teaching primarily chemistry at a public or private high school that supports dynamic, innovative, student-centered teaching.

Teaching

Chemistry teacher at Waltham Senior High School (2007-present), Belmont High School (2006-07), Peabody Veterans Memorial High School (2004-06), and Marblehead High School (2003-04). Courses taught included AP Chemistry (3 years), General Chemistry (honors and college preparatory), Chemistry II (honors and college preparatory), and Organic Chemistry (honors). Strong emphasis on understanding, problem-solving, and "thinking outside the box". Respected and well-liked by students, parents, administrators, and colleagues.

Advised students taking the 2007 and 2008 Avery Ashdown National Chemistry Exams. Coordinated PVMHS 2006 science fair. Set up and managed wireless network for PVMHS science department, and provided computing help and support. Wrote and maintained PVMHS web site during 2004-05 school year.

Worked as a substitute teacher during 2002-03 at Peabody Veterans Memorial High School, Lynn Vocational Technical Institute, Lynnfield Middle School, Belmonte Middle School (Saugus), and Thurgood Marshall Middle School (Lynn).

Certifications

Current Massachusetts certifications (preliminary license) in chemistry, physics, biology, high school mathematics, and middle school mathematics.

Tutoring

Successfully tutored students in high school mathematics (algebra II) and physics during 2005-06 and 2006-07, resuling in an improvement of a full letter grade or more for each student.

Adult Education

Taught HTML authoring and basic UNIX mechanics to users at MIT via one-on-one sessions, small group discussions, and presentations to groups of 50-100 people.

Process Engineering

Developed and scaled up manufacturing and purification processes for MRI contrast agents and raw materials, using cGMPs. Managed transfer of these processes from R & D to production. Trained production personnel in relevant procedures and supervised production of initial batches.

Tissue Culture

Designed, implemented, and managed a small-scale pharmaceutical tissue culture program. Responsibilities included laboratory design, budgeting, purchasing, and research.

Researched and wrote experimental protocols and SOPs for tissue culture laboratory. Trained personnel in tissue culture techniques and procedures. Worked closely with VP of Operations and senior biologist in charge of animal facility.

Software Quality Assurance

Implemented and managed QA programs for three software companies: a web-based data mining company, a supply-chain software company, and a network security company. Responsibilities included test planning and design, functionality and UI testing, bug tracking, assessment of release readiness, and managerial responsibility over a small QA engineering staff.

Technical Support

Responsible for second-tier support of Manufacturing Planning Windows software package. Responsibilities incldued analysis and resolution of customer problems and management of customer relationships. Translated customer feedback into bug reports or enhancement requests as appropriate.

Provided first- and second-tier technical support for Kerberos V5-based network security package. Analyzed and solved customer problems. Received spontaneous praise from customers for the level of support provided. Gathered usability data and gave feedback to developers, resulting in reduced support load.

Technical Writing

Wrote complete set of documents for KerbNet, a complex network security package. Documents included Installation Guide, User's Guide, System Administrator's Guide, and Guide to Building from Source Code. Documents received spontaneous praise from several customers and are still in use nearly a decade later.

Edited articles for technical journals. Edited research sections of two 10,000-page FDA New Drug Applications. Wrote SOPs, manufacturing documents, and QC procedures.

Webmaster

Designed and implemented more than a dozen websites comprising more than 500 web pages that organize and convey information effectively.

Music & Dance

Professional violist with Symphony by the Sea, an all-professional North Shore chamber orchestra. Assistant principal violist with the New England Philharmonic. Dance foreman (teacher/leader) for Red Herring Morris adult morris dance team and Banbury Cross Morris children's morris dance team. Also performed with the Boston Chamber Ensemble, Civic Symphony Orchestra of Boston, the Brookline Symphony Orchestra, the Triptych Chamber Orchestra, and the Greensboro (Vermont) Summer Festival Orchestra.
